A Faulty Foundation

(Any excuse to sneak pop punk songs of my yoof into the blog).

So, let's cut to the chase. Here's what I wore to town with my gurl Jen on Wednesday:

Jacket - H&M kids, Dress - Topshop (sold out now), Necklace - c/o Rock 'n' Rose, Snood - Topshop, Boots and Bag - Charity shop

My Rock 'n' Rose Kora necklace has been causing a stir... I didn't realise its 'anti christ' connotations, but old women have been scowling and dissing me in the street! One woman loudly muttered 'Oh dear.' at me on the train! Charming! I shall still continue to wear it in the name of all things edgy. Soz, god.

Ma face. Wearing Estee Lauder Double Wear in Shell with a bit of ELF cool bronzer! This look could've done with a slick of lippy in hindsight!

Nothing too exciting to report on in general life, but in makeup matters I am on the lookout for a(nother) new foundation... I bought Clinique Even Better a while back and liked it but the colour is just too dark and yellow for me. I knew it was in the shop but just couldn't say no to the deal of dreams... This foundation took away my paleness and I realised that I couldn't be having that as I am proudly pasty. So I have since tried Illamasqua's Skin Base and love it, but am biding my time to get one on eBay or a blog sale seeing as I don't really want to blow another £25 on foundation... Let me know if you see shade 02 for sale on your travels, or if you have one you want to sell! By the way, one of my Twitter followers has told me you can get 20% off using the code NIHRIDA20! Still doesn't make it cheap enough for this scrimper, though.

Oh, foundation shopping. It's worse than jeans, isn't it?

  3. Max Factor Xperience foundation is pretty awesome on pale skin (the palest I've found in fact and without any orangey, yellowy tinge!) and on a much nicer budget too! It's the best foundation I've ever used, I'm on my 4th bottle of the stuff now so it must be good! x

  4. Hahaha the 'soz, God' bit just cracked me up. Sure he'll get over it.

Pale foundation shopping is so hard! I love my Double Wear but recently keep thinking I look orange and I'm wearing shell! Doh.

  6. Hiya Gem! Long time no see. Hope you're well :) I use the Laura Mercier mineral powder and it's amazing! It's £30 a tub but it lasts a really long time so I don't feel so bad about it. I've also used the Bourjois healthy mix liquid foundation which is really good and pretty cheap x

  7. I have really pale skin too and i was matched at number 2 for the Clinique Even better and i found i had to mix it with some moisturiser as it was too dark. Hope you find a good pale foundation, i feel your pain x

  8. The upside down cross can also be the ST peters cross, as he was crucified upside down as he did not feel worthy enough to be crucified the same way as Jesus, apparently. (I'm not religious though so don't take my word for it (also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_St._Peter)). Just don't want you feeling like a Satanist! haha

Nars sheer glow is pretty good for pale skin I've heard, but I can't see it being cheap. I've been using Revlon Colourstay in the lightest shade, applied with a damp beauty blender and it's a pretty close match to my skin (which looks similar to yours).
    Thanks for sharing! xo

  9. I'm very very pale, so it's always been my most dreaded item to shop. Right now I'm limited to using Bourjois because I spent 50€ on a Guerlain that looked great in the store, applied by a make-up artist whereas outside, applied by moi, looks clownish. Oh hell...

  10. You needn't worry about the upside down cross. It's a symbol of St Peter, as he was crucified upside down. People associate it with satanism or whatever, but it's really not. Anyone who gives you trouble, just tell them to mind their own!

  11. If you're on the look out for a good foundation that's a bit cheaper, try Bourjois Healthy Mix or Rimmel Wake Me Up. They're both really good and I'm pale too and the colour seems fine for me :) x

  15. I read that last bit as 'It's worse than Jesus', which was pretty funny and rather fitting with the post, but alas my mind was playing silly buggers!

  16. Haha 'Soz God'! Oh nowadays you can wear anything and it doesn't have to carry its original meaning - I mean how many people wear normal crosses and aren't Christian?! Old ladies need to get with the programme, clearly. Love your dress and that jacket looks so great on you.

  17. It a very normal, non stalker way; im getting a little obsessed with your hair!! It's making me want to go shorter and darker...Very lovely lady!!

  22. Love love this outfit :) And btw the upside down cross is the sign of St Peter, it's not disrespectfull at all (really a sign of respect as being "not worthy" ^^ xxx

  23. Ah you look great, I kinda like the look without lippy, you look bare faced and just all round um, lovely!! Haha!

I've heart a couple of other people having complaints about this necklace, one in particular had abuse after putting it on LookBook, eek! Well, I kinda like it and I'm not religious at all so means nothing to me anyway, yikes!

  24. I recently bought Barry M's white foundation creme after seeing a few pale bloggers talking about it, & it has been a godsend - I am fed up of buying foundations with a really nice formula only to find that even the palest shade in the line is a touch too dark for me. Basically you mix a little of the white foundation into another one to create a custom pale shade. I have tried it with a few different formulas now and it mixes into everything nicely. It also means you can use up any slightly-too-dark foundations you've previously wasted money on, which is a bonus!

  26. You're looking fab gem! Your skin looks flawless! I wanted to get some for my wedding but I'm scared of looking silly and white in the photos. Plus I'd be disgusted with myself for spending over 20 squid on a foundation.

  27. For newt time old ladies scowl at you ;)
The Cross of St. Peter or Petrine Cross is an inverted Latin cross traditionally used as a Christian symbol. The origin of this symbol comes from the Catholic tradition that Simon Peter was crucified upside down. It is believed that Peter requested this form of crucifixion as he felt he was unworthy to be crucified in the same manner that Jesus died. As such, Catholics use this cross as a symbol of humility and unworthiness in comparison to Jesus.

  28. I'm a nightmare for foundation. Recently bought a MAC foundation but I'm not 100% whether I like it as it makes my skin look dry. So still hunting for something better.
Good luck with your foundation hunt!

Sorry to hear you've been shunned by all the old ladies this week, they just don't understand edgy fashion do they? Oh well.

    Hope you're ok! xx

  29. I totally know what you mean about 20% off Illamasqua still not justifying a purchase.
I have also been looking for a good pale foundation - so far, no luck.

  34. I'm really pale (almost see-through in fact) and always find foundations too orange or yellow, until L'oreal infalliable in Porcelain that is and it doesn't make me look like a ghost either. I think its £12.99 in Boots but I could be wrong. I've heard that the lightest shade in the Bare Minerals foundation is quite good as well but that's more expensive! I hope you smiled at the tutting old ladies...show them that even 'devil-worshipers' can be friendly ;)
