Brand New

When I was in Brighton the other week, I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I spied this lovely rusty-burgundy chunky cardigan in H&M with a £5 sticker on. I queued to pay and was ready for a battle, expecting to be told it cost more, but it did indeed come up as a fiver on the till! I do love me a bargain!

I wore it to work yesterday to prevent looking like a hussy in my new River Island bralet top and new skirt from H&M, under the logic that it's impossible to look like a hussy in a chunky knit.

I have used the word 'new' quite a lot in this blog post! I've been treating myself to a few new bits recently as I feel like my wardrobe needs a bit of a spruce. I have a shopping trip planned with my friend Jen on Wednesday which could be slightly lethal, but I have realised a bit of retail therapy is important once in a while! Sounds pretty obvious, but I get so set in my bargain hunting ways, that I often begrudge buying anything that isn't from a charity shop and costs more than £2.50! It's really no way to live! The above outfit does only cost £30 in total, though, so I'm hardly at risk of bankruptcy if I do relax my spending restrictions a little!

A new bra is on the shopping list for Wednesday - any recommendations for Jen and I? We're busty buddies, so if you're in the same boat do share your favourite shopping destinations!

Have you had a nice Easter? Mine has been utterly unremarkable, but we have a great night of Homeland and Milkybar buttons ahead so the only way is up!

  1. I got this top in River Island too but was apprehensive about wearing it before summer really started or actually being abroad somewhere, but now I've seen you wear it like this, I might give it a try too!! And my definite favourite for bras is Debenhams!! A little more expensive than other places sometimes, but the quality is definitely worth it - they do a French Floozie range which is really nice =)

  2. Primark now do bra's up to a double F size. I got two for £9 and I think they're fantastic! Very comfortable, very sturdy and they come in a really wide range of colours and sizes! Highly recommended! (from @saraharah on twitter)

  4. I read this whilst munching on an easter egg that looked like a pirate so my Easter is pretty good haha! I always struggle with bras as im a small back size but big cup, but I do tend to find my size in ann summers (just look past the PVC!) bit pricy but good quality. Also i know its cheeky but id love it if you checked out my blog, Im so new to blogging! http://safiya-marie.blogspot.co.uk/ xx

  5. Hahaha, I love the word 'hussy' so much. You look absolutely gorgeous (and not at all like a hussy)! Can't help you on the bra front, I'm afraid, having the figure of a seven year old boy!

  6. Loving the chunky knit with a bralet top! I always end up wearing flimsy (and useless) cardi's over stuff like that! I usually end up getting my bras from either Debenhams (not brilliant on a students budget, unless theres a sale) or ... tesco! Its often overlooked but they sell some surprisingly nice clothing and cheap but expensive looking bras that are true to size! A must for comfort and aesthetic quality!

  7. I love a bargain cardi too - and most of my recent purchases seem to have been car boots or charity shops too x

  10. lovely outfit! I too hate spending over £20 for something and if I do buy something which costs over it I feel really guilty!

  11. Love your outfit as always :] Bra wise I have bought the bestest ever two bras I own from Ann summers honestly I only found the joy of an Ann Summers bra when I bought two at £3 each in the christmas sale but they are amazing!!! xxx

  12. Love the whole look and adore your cardi (love anything burgundy at the mo)! I too have the whole larger cup, smaller back issue and normally find that the cheaper high street stores dont normally do them in my size. I tend to shop at Debenhams for them too, their own brand of cotton underwired bras (2pk) for around £22 are excellent. : )

  13. Ooh where's the cardi from? I picked up a beautiful chunky jade coloured cardi from Juju the other day for a tenner. I'm so in love with it ^.^

  15. Debenhams do quite a lot of amazing bigger bust ranges, I've been going there for years! Also BHS are good. I stear away from Ann Summers and La Senza because even though they do the sizes I don't think they are very well made, bra snob right here ha!!

  16. Meh, if the Cardigan is from H&M then I'm ashamed to say I paid full wack for it and this post is very depressing! :( Looks lovely you on anyhow, and tones down the bralet! xxx

  17. I love me some absolutely sexy outfit desexyfied by a totally chunky and granpa-ish knit! You look gorgeous and not hussy-like at all!

  20. I love that H&M cardy but I think it was something like £25 or £30 full price?! I didn't think that was really worth it but I'd love it for a fiver! x

    1. 110% agree! I recently embarked on the four hour round trip to get my nursing bra's.
It drives me mad if I go anywhere else and they offer to measure me and out comes the tape - Noooooooooooo! they never bloody fit! Bravissimo rule!

  23. Pretty laaaady! Love this outfit. I think you're right about a knit saving you from being labelled a hussy!
As for bras, I find New Look can actually be quite good, size wise! They do some quite big sizes. Either that or M&S. I loooove Marks and Sparks bras! You've made me want to go shopping now! xxx

  24. Aah the bralet and cardigan are so so nice. I do the chuck a chunky cardigan over an outfit and everything will be ok thing a lot, especially for work!

  25. I'd suggest Boux Avenue for bras - I'd call myself 'busty' too and after La Senza went bust and stopped selling nice bras for ampler ladies I had to look elsewhere... there's not many Boux stores open yet but there's a great website and they have nice, not-to-expensive bras for larger sizes that don't look too grannyish, which is always my worry when buying at M&S or Debenhams. 26. I love that bralet, I have the same cardi got it in the autumn for at least £20! It's great for lazy days.

  27. Haha I do the same thing when I dress a bit provocatively! If I feel like my hem's a bit high or my top a bit low, I just throw on my fisherman's cardigan--it's kind of funny, like "IF I LOOK LIKE A GRANDPA I CAN'T POSSIBLY BE A HOE".

  29. Cannot believe £5! H&M do sometimes have some real-beyond-belief bargains, you scored a great one there! Lovely cardigan. I love the different patterns of the bralet and skirt but they go really well xx

  30. I'm not particularly 'booby' but I love boux avenue and dragged my much larger chested best friend there who fell in love too! She's always shopped in bravissimo but commented that she struggles to get pretty bras sometimes which they do in boux - and loved the fact that one of the bras I liked only started at a DD and up!! Lol
Plus the whole shop is gorgeous with all the additional sizes in little drawers underneath and the scented petals they add to the wrapping. It's always worth getting remeasured too! Good luck - finding the perfect bra is like finding the perfect jeans - once you find it you mever go anywhere else!

  31. I've been treating myself a bit recently too, feels so good after a big, boring spending ban! Love the bralet and the cardi, oddly amazing combo! As another busty gal, I always go to knickerbox (anne summers I'm afraid!) for my bras. They fit lovely and are excellent quality and I think they are always 2 for £25, and the matching knickers are so lovely and comfortable!

  33. So true! After a year of eBaying and charity shopping, £5 seems like a fortune to spend on one piece of clothing, I end up feeling cheated!

  34. I always have to go to special boob places because no high street bras sell my size! Ann summers have a good sale on - but I'd look online as you're more likely to get your size. Good luck!
    It would be mine

  35. I find Debenhams and M&S are good for ladies of ampler bosom (but not ample back). You have to dig a bit through the old lady bras, but there are some lovely ones.
I don't get on with La Senza at all, I find they come up small and never sit right.

  36. That is very sound logic! :D
I love picking up bargains too, I hope you find many more on your shopping trip with Jen :)
