New Clinique Purchases

After asking my Twitter followers for some advice on which foundation to invest in next, the one that came up a lot was Clinique's Even Better. Never one to throw money at a product without proper research, I went to Clinique and got a couple of sample pots to try out at home.

When I was sure I was happy with it, I headed to Clinique in my local Fenwick's store and saw that there was a deal on. If I bought one other product that was skincare, I'd get a fairly epic free gift. I decided to get the Take The Day Off makeup remover, after trying it and loving it all that time ago when Clinique did loads of free samples with Glamour Magazine. Full reviews below!

What I love about this foundation is that it has a dewy finish. I've always used matte foundations in the past, but after becoming transfixed on this picture in Glamour recently, I've been craving a more natural finish. This foundation applies like a dream (I'm currently alternating my ELF Powder Brush and Real Techniques Stipple Brush to do so) and doesn't sit on the skin at all. It just evens everything out and makes you look like you have perfect and radiant skin. I like to set it with a bit of powder just to take a tiny bit of the shine off and help it last longer. The only down side is it isn't quite light enough. I'm using the lightest shade Alabaster, and I do find I need to blend some down my neck a bit too just to prevent any lines. It still looks very natural, though and will be perfect when I've caught a bit of sun, too.

I can be a bit of a lazy oaf when it comes to removing my mascara fully every night. It seems to take so much effort to remove every trace (even using really good removers like my No7 one) that by the time I've got it all off, my skin is sore and I've probably gained a few wrinkles from all that manhandling of the eye area! Anyway, this remover is not like that. You shake the bottle, apply some to cotton wool and it melts makeup off in a few sweeps without any effort or discomfort. It also cuts through lipstick easily, too. It may be £15.50, but this stuff is like Cillit Bang for your eyes and if it takes the stress and discomfort out of my nightly wrestle to remove mascara, it is a darn good investment in my eyes. (Don't excuse the pun, it was a bloody good one!)

Le free gift:

I was bowled over by the freebie! I'm not sure if this is still available at Clinique counters now, as it's unclear on the website, so I won't dwell on it too much. The products I'm most pleased with are the Airbrush Concealer, the travel size eye makeup remover, the superbalm lip gloss, and the eyeshadow duo

It did come to £44, which made me wince a bit, but I do still have money in my christmas money fund and a decent foundation and makeup remover are two things I do believe it's worth investing in!

Are you a fan of any of Clinique products? What beauty products do you think are worth investing in?

  1. Clinique freebies are the best, I always end up buying 2 products when I only want 1!

Although pricey you definitely get your moneys worth and I've never not liked any of their products.

  7. I've never thought to try foundations from brands like clinique because I always see them just as a skincare brand, the foundation sounds great. The freebies also are so generous! xo

  9. I have the same problem with Clinique foundations being too dark, I just mix a bit of white foundation in and all is well! That's a really good freebie too- I always save my clinique purchases for when they have a good deal on!

  10. I've always sworn by clinique make up, mainly because it's what my Mum uses and she introduced me to it as i got older. I grew up nicking her bonus time freebies that she never wanted like the lipglosses and mascaras haha. I love the bonus time. I use their anti-blemish foundation at the moment and it's really good.

  11. Clinique bonus time is the best!
I'm still hunting for a paler than pale foundation with not much luck.
I think skincare is definitely worth investing in as well as a good foundation - no point in skimping on the base of your whole routine :)
It would be great if Clinique brought out make-up remover wipes with the 'take the day off' formula!

  16. would love to see a photo of how this foundation looks on? i hate heavy coverage, buildable lighter coverage foundations are the way forward! although i have 3 foundations on the go at the mo, so prob best off trying a sample before adding to my collection!

the makeup remover stuff is AMAZING! so much better than the botanics one that everyone raves about. i can never bring myself to spend so much on it though. you're right though, i hate using rubbish makeup remover and having to scrub and pull at my skin. i think i may have talked myself into a clinique binge now! no self control!

  19. I've only tried clinique for men (bizarre I know!) but my friend swears by the scruffing lotion for spots. And it does work. Because it's pure ALCOHOL. So not too kind on a daily basis. Once I asked a clinique counter if they could give me some testers of moisturisers because I didn't know which one to choose and wanted to invest in the best one for me, to which they replied they NEVER do or did samples. liars!

  20. I love Clinique skin care products! I'm using bare minerals at the minute but kind of want a liquid foundation too for when I need more coverage, I'm going to try to get a sample of even better to try out after such a good review! Amazing freebie, makes the price tag more bearable

  23. Clinique is definitely the best when it comes to freebies. I got a makeup bag full of stuff before just cause I brought some anti bacterial face wash as I had a really bad break out on my face. Love their products and they're defo worth every penny!

  24. I love Clinique foundations :) and am also a sucker for their freebies, I have a few of the little make-up bags they all come in now. This one looks awesome though, especially the concealer! xx

  29. Ooooh that make up remover sounds amazing! I've recently changed my mascara from Max Factor False Lash Effect to Loreal Volume Collagene and oh MAN it is impossible to get off, my eyes are so sore and red every night and still get panda eye in the morning. Might have to invest in this!

  30. I really love the mild facial soap that you got as a freebie, doesn't irritate me at all. I also love their powder, so light x

  31. I've never tried anything Clinique but i've been looking into anti redness products for my wedding (blotchy skin + easily embarrassed = a very luminous me) and clinique seem to have a whole range of wonderous products. If they're still doing this free gift then I may have to purchase!

    xx

  32. I have Clinique Mascara which is really good- much better than the Mac mascara I used to use. And it washes off really easily with their make up remover so you don't end up with panda eyes! I use their Take It Off cleansing balm- similar to the make up remover you have bought. I've had it for a few months and it's still practically full. You just need to apply a tiny amount and rinse if off with warm water and it gets rid of every trace of make up! I would definitely recommend getting it once your make up remover runs out :)x

  33. Am really not a Clinique fan at all, I think their skincare is average at best and it's just not a counter I ever bother to look at...without doubt the best thing I've used is Eve Lom cleanser but I will never clean my eyes with anything other than baby oil and my fingers, my mum always did this (but with olive oil in those days!) and doesnt have a single proper eye wrinkle and is in her 60's-the best advert! I wear a shit load of mascara/eyeliner and this is the only thing that has ever really worked!

Would love to see the foundation on, I made the decision to ditch liquid and just use powder after trying MAC's mineralize skin finish but am always keen to try something new!

  34. I use Clinique foundation. I have really good skin, but a red complexion so the only reason I wear makeup is to make me less red! Clinique do a light foundation with a touch of green in it that balances out my bright red face!

  35. I use Clinique anti blemish stuff and as I always buy at least two products I always wait until bonus time-you're right, the freebies are just amazing! xx
