Spaced Out

I painted my (plastic) nails last night and decided to attempt my first ever space nails, inspired by the new Mac OSX Lion background! Apple geek in da houze. I use the term 'inspired by' very loosely as my spacey nails technique needs a bit of improvement!

The other nails were coated in Models Own Disco Mix (GORGE), which I put over a base coat of Models Own Pro in Black Grape (freeb). Except my ring fingers, which had the gorgeous Models Own True Blue and leopard print using my black Models Own nail pen (freeb) and white one!

Will do a spacey tutorial if I nail the technique (accidental pun there!) It essentially consists of using a washing up sponge to dab lots of different colours onto the nail. Youtube it!

Am still loving the benefits of using fake nails. It's just SO much easier and more blunder-proof to paint in advance. I painted them last night and whacked them on in 3 minutes this morning before work. Instant epic nails, without messy edges/dents. See my Tuesday Tip on false nails here

In other news, I'm a bit achey from a freak bout of motivation I had earlier on which saw me jogging around the local field and then doing some weights with baked bean tins when I got in! Must keep it up. It would mean so much to me to no longer have arm chub that sways in the breeze. Don't get me wrong, I rather like my bod, but my snacky ways are definitely showing more than ever!

Anyway, we're going to watch a film called Submarine now, so I'll bid thee farewell!

Have you had a nice weekend? I do hope so!

PS - I've joined Tumblr! Cringe.

  1. I love space nails too! I did a look on my blog a bit ago with mine one. Mine were more like your thumb though. I don't envy you taking all that glitter polish off though, it really spoils it for me because my nails end up red raw after trying to get it off :( xxx

  2. Haha! I was just looking at "galaxy nail polish" on ebay before you posted this. Didn't find any glitters I liked though, but your nails look really cute!

  7. Looks great! Any chance of you doing a video tutorial of how you file/cut the plastic nails down to fit your own nails? I'd like to jump on the plastic nails bandwagon, as my own are so rubbish and flaky, but I've never successfully managed to trim falsies.

  9. lol at "arm chub that sways in the breeze"... I feel I have that issue with my fat cheeks, honestly - I jog or even WALK and they jiggle uncontrollably - not really much I can do about that lol!

I'm a big convert to false nails, so cheap and so easy! And for some reason, polish doesn't seem to chip off as much! They're brill

  12. Ooh I love the disco mix! Might have to "invest" in that. I'm dying to have a go at space-y nails, but I think I'd be a bit of a fail. Loving the "freeb". I always want to steal all of your made up words Gem!

  13. I love that space nail technique, its crazy what random household things can be used for nail art!

I was inspired after your fake nail post to buy some and do this myself. I haven't been able to try it out yet though as I work with food but will be starting a new jobs soon where painted nails are welcomed - very excited!!

  15. Oooo I did wonder how long it'd take for a nail fanatic like you to try out the whole space-y nail thing! They turned out quite well although I'm quite content with using a navy colour by Rimmel with a glittery clear coat over it... seems to give a similar effect. Submarine's such a cute film - the main character was so sweet. Am off to check out your tumblr whilst avoiding the temptation of creating my own! xxx

  28. I really need to get hold of some of the Eyeko Cosmic Polish, because apparently they are discontinuing their varnishes and I have heard so many great things about it! Ooh, I've been meaning to watch Submarine for ages..

  29. I'm so tempted to go buy some fake nails now - I've never even thought to paint them before, and leaving them in their plain, plastic-y glory isn't really very me. I'll defo be giving the space thing a go if I can nab me some nice talons!

Didn't get to watch Submarine in the end, because our *downloaded* copy was a bit staggery and annoying. Booo! Definitely gonna try and see it after all the rave reviews in this comments thread!
